Photographs, Artwork and Artifacts of the Canal Era in Waterville

In conjunction with the Anthony Wayne Area Arts Commissions Plein Air

painting event: Art and About 2023: Jim White Memorial Paint Out, the Waterville

Historical Society will be presenting a display honoring the 180th anniversary of

the first canal boat to pass through our city in May of 1843. Included will be

photographs and paintings of some of the boats that passed through, as well as

the many businesses that thrived because of the canal. Learn what happened to

the canal after it was no longer needed, and where it can still be found

today. There is also a display in the front of Wakeman Hall representing what a

canal store would have looked like featuring many donated artifacts that have

come from several of the original stores. The Wakeman Hall Museum and the Archives will

be open on June 22, 23 and 24 from 10AM till 2PM. We are located at 401 Farnsworth Road in

Waterville. Stop in and see what our town was like all those years ago.
